The former Beatles pop star penned a face with a crown pointing towards the signature of Her Majesty, who had visited Caird Hall in Dundee, Scotland, just weeks before he did.

Sir Paul was on the final date of his UK tour with his post-Beatles bands Wings at the concert hall in 1975 when he wrote the tongue-in-cheek message saying,"and love from another subject."

Susan Gillan, Caird Hall's music development section leader, remembered that the rock band had paid a visit back in 1975 and stumbled across the bassist's entry.

And the late Queen Mother, then Chancellor of Dundee University, was not the only high-profile person to add a note to the star-studded book with Sir Paul's ex-wife Linda McCartney and comedian Billy Connolly also penning messages.

On the same page in the book has a message from Linda that reads: "Keep it up Dundee, you take the cake!"

Ms Gillian said: "This was a reference to the fact it was Linda's birthday when they visited and Paul had made sure there was plenty Dundee cake on hand to celebrate."

Later this month the sounds of Mull of Kintyre will again ring out across the Caird Hall as Strictly stars Anton du Beke and Judy Murray will be dancing to the Wings classic.

It will form part of the the Anton & Erin That's Entertainment show at the venue on Thursday, February 19.
