#TheDress effect strikes again: These two images are exactly the SAME colour

IF you thought The Dress was mind-boggling, take a look at this.

These two images are actually the same colour

These two images are exactly the same colour but one appears a light pink, while the other looks a deep burgundy colour.

The identical images of painted fingernails being held up to a mouth look different because they are placed on a different colour backgrounds.

The pale pink is one is on top of a white background, while the dark maroon image is surrounded by a black one.

The latest optical illusion has already begun doing the rounds on Twitter. But this is more of a Photoshop trick than one of the mind.

In the original picture below, the lips and nails are pixellated, with some of the small squares appearing as a shade of purple, while others look pink.

These pixels mean that the image is semi-see through, so it can adapt to different colours when they appear behind it in Photoshop.

This is the reason why the image appears pink on Twitter but when you click on it becomes a completely different colour as the black background shows through.

Although there is a simple explanation to this optical illusion, it has been baffling people on social media.

One Twitter user @sayingsforgirls, said: "Wow, that's trippy."

While another called @PrincessMorgsss wrote: "AHHH someone explain this to me."

The bizarre set of pictures comes a month after #TheDress broke the internet, with some seeing it as blue and black and others white and gold.

#TheDress was posted on Tumblr by Caitlin McNeill, after noticing her friends saw different colours in the photograph.

And it caused a huge debate, with even A-listers getting in on the action.

Kim Kardashian asked her 29.4million Twitter followers to help settle a disagreement between herself and husband Kanye West.

She tweeted: "What color is that dress? I see white & gold. Kanye sees black & blue, who is color blind?"

And Taylor Swift wrote: "I don't understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it's a trick somehow.I'm confused and scared.PS it's OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK.

While the trick behind the mismatching nail pictures has a more simple explanation, it should still mystify social media users.
