When Cecilia bought the body con dress she had no idea it would cause a worldwide debate

Cecilia Bleasdale has finally broken her silence on the dress 'that broke the internet' on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

She appeared on the LA show alongside her daughter and son-in-law, Grace and Keir Johnston, who cut their Jamaican honeymoon short to talk about the bizarre worldwide obsession.

Caitlin McNeill, 21, who first upload the image on Tumblr, also joined them on the set of the chat show - which attracts 4.4 million viewers.

Cecilia, from Blackpool, who until now has not said anything publicly about the media storm, bought the £50 dress for her daughter's wedding.

Little did she know the whole world would soon be debating what colour it is.

Dressgate - What color is the dress

Sitting across from US host Ellen and wearing her now famous dress, Cecilia said: "I've never seen gold and white - I don't get the gold and white.

"It was Grace's wedding and I wanted to do her proud. I'm quite busty and I thought it would pinch me in at the waist and give me a figure.

"I just wanted to get it right. Then I was worried there was something wrong with my brain."

Ellen DeGeneres show DEADLINE NEWS

The owner has spoken out for the first time on the Ellen DeGeneres show

Grace explained to Ellen that her mother had first sent photos of three different dresses to get her opinion.

She  said: "I said, 'so which one is it?' And she said,'the third one'.

"I said, 'oh the white and gold one?' and she said, 'no the blue and black one'.

"I said 'no mum, that's white and gold. If you think it's blue and black you need to go to the doctors'

"So we had a bit of a row."

Her husband Keir added: "I'm a founding member of team blue and black.

"Being such a small island my mum and dad live next door - we have an adjoining door.

"So I knocked on the door and there was my dad. I said, 'what colour is the dress?' and he said, 'white and gold'.

The dress debate TUMBLR

The picture was initially posted on Tumblr by Caitlin McNeill

Caitlin thought the family were playing a prank on her to try and make her feel crazy.

"I thought they were playing a trick on me." Caitlin said.

"We had been arguing about it for weeks. It had been tearing the community apart - we were losing our minds.

"I thought I'd put it on Tumblr - sometimes Tumblr is good for that sort of science stuff," she added.

"Within half an hour it was on Twitter."

Ellen DeGeneres, along with Kim Kardashian Kanye West and Taylor Swift got involved in the online debate that swept the internet last week.

"You left your honeymoon early and I appreciate that so much because everybody in the world wanted to talk to you," said Ellen before handing to couple $10,000 and a holiday to Grenada.

The hue of the lace bodycon frock came under serious debate on social media last week with some seeing it as white and gold and others as blue and black.

The post was then shared across the blogging website before going viral. And even A-list celebrities waded in on the debate.

Taylor Swift tweeted: "I don't understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it's a trick somehow.I'm confused and scared.PS it's OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK."

Even Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West disagreed on the colour: "What color is that dress? I see white & gold. Kanye sees black & blue, who is color blind?"
