American Vogue editor Anna Wintour reportedly wants Kate Middleton to appear on the fashion glossy's September cover - traditionally the biggest and most important issue of the year.

A source told gossip website Radar Online: “Anna knows landing Kate for the September issue would be a huge coup, especially since Prince William’s wife has never done a magazine feature for a US publication.

“The focus of Kate’s feature would be her numerous charity endeavors, which Anna has conveyed to Kate’s staff.”

The insider added that the publication are keen to bag the 33-year-old royal to help boost magazine sales.

London-born Anna has reportedly offered Kate "full control over the accompanying photo shoot" and would let her pick the photographer, journalist and location for the piece.

“Anna has been trying for the last two years to get Kate to agree and she’s always refused,” said the source.

But this time the 65-year-old is said to have "stepped up the campaign, and is now enlisting her numerous high powered connections.”

73 Questions with Anna Wintour

Anna Wintour caused world-wide outcry last year when she chose to put controversial rapper Kanye West and reality star Kim Kardashian on the April cover of the high-end mag.

She defended her decision at the time saying, “I think if we just remain deeply tasteful and put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine.”

Express Online has contacted the Duchess of Cambridge's representatives for comment.
