Eager fans queue for hours to get their hands on Sony Playstation 4 at US launch
SONY'S eagerly anticipated Playstation 4 (PS4) launched in North America today with fans reportedly queuing up for 18 hours to buy the new console.
The powerful successor to the PS4 officially went on sale at midnight local time for a price of $399 with Killzone: Shadow Fall the must have game.
Huge crowds lined up in New York to purchase the console while in San Francisco eager gamers started queuing on Thursday hours ahead of the launch.
According to USA Today, people started queuing at a Game Stop in Maryland at 4am on Thursday while in Green Bay gamers got in line at 10am.
Sony are expecting to sell five million PS4 consoles by the end of their financial year next March.
John Koller, PlayStation's Vice-President of Marketing, said: "The PS4 is a completely new way of playing games.
I think you start with the graphics being absolutely theatrical, in many ways like you'd see in movie theatres and some of the best CG action films, but it's really kind of the social experiences that make the PlayStation 4 as special as it is."
The console will go head-to-head with Microsoft's new console the Xbox One which goes on sale in the states next week.
The release of the PS4 comes seven years after its predecessor the PS3 was released and eight years after the XBOX 360 came out.
The lengthy gap between new consoles means gamers are hungry and eager to get their hands on a new piece of technology.
The Xbox One will be released in the UK on November 22 priced at £429.
While the PS4 will be released a week later on November 29 for £349.
The biggest launch titles for Sony's new console include the latest Killzone, platformed Knack and shooter Call of Duty: Ghosts.
The PS4 features next generation graphical power and a revolutionary system which lets you record you best gaming moments and share it online.
