Popular restaurant to close 25 sites across the UK in May - list of confirmed closures
The Restaurant Group, owner of Wagamama, Chiquito and Frankie & Benny's, has been struggling with higher inflation and energy costs.
The Restaurant Group is closing a total of 25 of its restaurants by the end of the month, including Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito and Firejacks. In March, the company announced a rationalisation plan to exit 35 potentially loss-making locations over the next two years. This month, however, TRG confirmed the closure of 23 of these sites by the end of May.
The company has a total of 410 restaurants across the country, but no Wagamama closures have been announced. The affected sites at the time of writing are Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito and Firejacks.
With the closure of 35 sites, the company estimates it will save £5million per year. After a loss of £50million last year, TRG explained that the higher inflation and energy costs have severely affected the business.
The Restaurant Group explained: “We announced a review of our Leisure estate in March and made the difficult decision to exit some of our Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito and Firejacks sites.
"We are working closely with our impacted teams and will look to redeploy colleagues to neighbouring sites across our wider estate wherever possible.”
