Exercise can halve risk of womb cancer
WOMAN can cut the danger of womb cancer by nearly 50 per cent through keeping active and staying at a healthy weight, it was revealed yesterday.
Studies analysed by the World Cancer Research Fund found strong evidence that about 3,700 cases a year in Britain – or four in 10 – could be prevented if women were active for 38 minutes a day and maintained a body mass index of between 18.5 and 25.
In the UK only 56 per cent of women are physically active for at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week, while only 39 per cent are a healthy weight. The evidence was collated by researchers at Imperial College London. Professor Hilary Powers of Sheffield University said that governments could help in making a healthier lifestyle “an easier option for us all”.
