Anger as club is bowled out after 140 years
PENSIONERS are furious after a pub evicted them from their prized bowling green.
Landlord Matt Scriven claims there has been vandalism and a series of complaints about noise at the 140-year-old bowling club next to the New Inn in Harborne, Birmingham.
But chairman John Beeston, 76, denied members are rowdy.
He said: “We’re hardly football hooligans."
Secretary George Smith, 74, added: “I am devastated. The club is my second life.”
Mr Scriven plans to turn the green into a beer garden – to make more money.
