FAMILIES living close to a high street with a McDonalds outlet can expect their home to be as much as 24 per cent lower than average values in the area, shock data analysis has shown.
House prices can be linked to local high streets
The fast-food chain was found to have the most devastating impact on property values, with homes near a McDonalds tens of thousands of pounds cheaper than those that are not.
Clothing chains Peacocks and Primark were found to be the second and third worst brands to live close to, in a study of Hertfordshire land registry prices carried out by website Fast Sale Today.
Average values in Stevenage, Baldock, Royston and Hatfield are among the lowest in the county - and all of the towns high streets feature a McDonalds branch.

Asda, Claires and Poundland were also found to be negatively linked to nearby home values.
On there other hand, Zaza italian restaurants and M&Co are the most lucrative brands to have on your local high street, suggested the research.
Homes in Harpenden Berhamstead, Rickmansworth and St Albans have average values of between £477,000 and £776,000 - and all the high streets feature a Zaza restaurant.
