Mulberry fights fall in sales with new range of Cara Delevingne bags

LUXURY leather goods maker Mulberry has reversed a disastrous fall in sales thanks to a new range of products including its Cara Delevingne bags. The firm has been trying to win back customers after a shift to £2,000 handbags backfired.

Chairman Godfrey Davis, who returned to the business in April, said: “The steps that have been taken to return Mulberry to growth are starting to bear fruit.”

In the six months to the end of September sales slumped 17 per cent to £64.7m while the company fell to a pre-tax loss of £1.1million.

But in the nine weeks to November 29 sales rose by 8 per cent and online demand surged by 18 per cent.

Davis said new products, including its Tessie bags – selling for £495 to £695 – and the Delivingne range, left, had gone down well with customers.

He added: “The next seven to eight weeks are very important for us. Gifting is a large part of our business at Christmas.”

The shares were up 10p to 790p.
