Founded by former flying doctor Mark Ratnarajah, the comparisons site, which compares surgeons with a five-star rating system, will launch next month.

The website details 4,000 of the 5,000 practising surgeons operating around the country.

Ratnarajah says that its users will be able to see the records, experience and qualifications of different surgeons and how much they charge.

It will feature reviews from patients instead.

Ratnarajah said that to solve the problem of bogus and malicous reviews, all comments will be carefully scrutinised and vetted.

The site will be free for patients but surgeons will pay a fee for each procedure booked through it.

FindMeHealth.com will initially target the quarter of a million self-pay private health procedures market, which is worth £500 million-plus a year or 15 per cent of the total UK private healthcare market.

Ratnarajah said that he plans to expand the service to cover the rest of the private healthcare market in due course.

Wray, who leads a consortium of 15 investors, said: “FindMeHealth can help put consumers back in control and to make better choices.”
