Thomas Cook boss Harriet Green named Business Woman of the year
HARRIET Green, who has revived holiday company Thomas Cook, was last night named the 42nd Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the year.
Green was appointed chief executive in 2012 after cold-calling the firm’s chairman when it ran into problems.
The shares have since risen ten-fold as she transformed the company. She also earned plaudits from judges for tackling diversity issues.
Green said: “I believe it is incumbent on each of us to really encourage young women and young men to realise their full potential and find their entrepreneurial spirit.”
Meanwhile, the Veuve Clicquot New Generation Award went to Jenny Dawson, who founded Rubies in the Rubble in 2011, making chutney out of food that would otherwise go to waste.
