The FTSE 250 pizza delivery firm’s most popular ever meal deal – comprising large pizza with garlic pizza bread, potato wedges and dough balls – helped drive a 10.8 per cent rise in turnover at its 725 UK stores in the 13 weeks to 30 March.

Like-for-like sales in its 48 stores in the Republic of Ireland rose 3.4 per cent as sales across the group jumped 14.8 per cent to £188.5million.

The company now makes nearly 70 per cent of its sales over the internet, up from 61.9 per cent a year ago.

Sales taken through online platforms were up 25 per cent to £103million.

We remain confident in delivering our target of 40 to 50 new stores in 2014.”

Former Halfords boss Wild is standing in after chief executive Lance Batchelor’s move to Saga.

Domino’s chairman Stephen Hemsley said the process for finding a new chief executive is “well advanced”. Shares fell 1½p to 556p.
