Toys and treats keep JLP busy
SHOPPERS avoided the lure of Test cricket and Open golf to keep the tills ringing at John Lewis department stores.
Sales in the week to July 18 rose 5.3 per cent to £52.6million, with strong demand in the toys, nursery and sports departments.
Sister company Waitrose supermarkets saw a 12.7 per cent improvement to £84million in the same period. Sales of flowers and chocolates were boosted by demand for end-of-term gifts for teachers, said the company.
