THE DURAN DURAN DYNASTY GOES ON

Story Image

Wednesday August 20,2008

DESPITE gigging for the last two years, recently signed band The Electric City have been harbouring a well-kept secret: three of their members are related to stars of Eighties’ pop sensation Duran Duran.

Andy Taylor’s son Andy J Taylor is the singer, guitarist James Cantone is the offspring of Roger Taylor and drummer Dan Laithwaite is singer Simon Le Bon’s nephew.

Despite managing to keep their famous connections close to their chests, the London-based quartet, completed by bass player Jonny Bullit, have already been earning rave reviews.

After a support slot at a Teenage Cancer Trust gig last year, news of their impressive performance filtered through to The Who’s frontman Roger Daltrey, who recently asked them to support him at another TCT concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

The foursome are in good company, with a number of new groups featuring the children of famous rockers currently making their presence felt, including George Harrison’s son Dhani’s  thenewno2 and Sting’s daughter Coco Sumner’s band I Blame Coco.

But will they get hordes of middle-aged Duran Duran groupies turning up in case any of the older Wild Boys are there?
