Tried and tested: Hair glossers
We test out the best glossers to get your locks looking lush
Mark Hill Ultimate Gloss Mist, £5.33 (08450 708090)
Boosted with vitamin E and UV filters to protect the hair, this mist squirts rather than delivers a fine spray. As it is oil free, it doesn’t weigh hair down but delivers plenty of moisture. 5/10
Senscience Pliable Shine, £8.95 (01282 683100)
This glossy pomade needs experienced hands to make it work well. Overdose on this and hair will be lank, weighted and heavy. Used with a gentle touch, it gives tresses a light sheen. 6/10
Redken Vinyl Glam 02, £12.50 (0845 600 0815)
This delivers a good, misty spray. Initially it smells overwhelmingly of alcohol but over time, this softens to a faint, floral scent. It gave a sheen rather than the full-on shine I was seeking. 5/10
MOP Glisten Spray Gloss, £12.95 (01282 613413)
One of the best spray nozzles of those tested, this mists lightly over the hair and has a fresh smell of citrus fruits. But as the fragrance is quite strong, it can interfere with any perfume. The shine was more a gentle shimmer. 7/10
BEST LUXURY BUY
Frederic Fekkai Glossing Sheer Shine Mist, £18 (020 8740 2085)
Another squirter, but this time the result is a lovely, glossy shine which lasted a whole evening. It contains pure olive oil to condition as it works and there is no overpowering perfume. 9/10
Prawduct Love That Shine Drops, £9.50 (http://www.HQhair.com)
This contains all the ingredients for a perfect fruit salad: extracts of apple, orange, grapefruit and lemons. It also smells delicious. Light in texture, it gives a reasonable sheen. 7/10
VO5 Perfect Lengths Shine Serum Mist, £2.99 (08450 708090)
Formulated for those with long hair this sprays almost like a hairspray. Because the delivery is so fine, it’s easy to avoid missing bits, particularly at the back. It gave a gentle sheen rather than shine. 6/10
BEST BARGAIN BUY
Andrew Collinge Shine On Salon Serum, £4.49 (Superdrug nationwide)
This light serum is virtually fragrance free, and applied after styling with a light hand gives a lustrous sheen to the hair. Don’t over apply otherwise hair can look lank and oily. 8/10
