The delectably delicious Divine Miss M is back with a bang on her new album It's The Girls!

Over the years, Bette has breathed new life into classics from Miss Otis Regrets to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy - not to mention the close-harmony treats on the soundtrack of her 1991 film For The Boys - and now the most delightful of divas is turning her attention to girl group classics through the decades.

They just don't make harmonies like that any more.

Nor, for that matter, do they come up with such brilliantly naff names as The Ronettes, Shirelles and Shangri-Las...

Express.co.uk has an exclusive preview of the album with her gorgeous cover of the Shirelles' 1961 hit Baby It's You.

Of course, it wouldn't be the Bette without a selection of up-tempo classics like Tell Him and Be My Baby, too.

The whole album is celebratory skip through some of the greatest harmonies performed by girl groups such as The Ronettes, The Boswell Sisters, The Andrew Sisters, The Chiffons and Martha Reeves and The Vandellas.

Bette even throws in a modern touch with a gentle reworking of the 1995 TLC worldwide smash Waterfalls.

From start to finish, the Hollywood star says that working on this project it has been a labour of love.

“A long time ago I fell in love with voices in harmony,” says Midler.

“In particular, the sound of female voices singing together.

"There were so many great girl groups in those days, I still listen as avidly as I ever did.

"This record is a small attempt to honour them for all the joy they brought to me and the world.”
