CD Review: Winter Mountain - Winter Mountain
IT'S like the beginning of an old joke: an Englishman and an Irishman get on the same train in Chicago...
The punchline in this case is that chance meeting between singer/songwriters Joseph Francis and Martin Smyth has given us an album of original songs which pay impeccable homage to the sound of the California canyons circa 1973/74.
These are sweet, breezy vignettes that take hold from the opening chords and recall effortlessly, the likes of America and CSN&Y.
The tumbling, romantic rush of Kissing In The Rain and Simon & Garfunkel harmonies of Tell Me are among the highlights but there is barely a wasted note on the whole record.
Fabulous.
VERDICT: 5/5
