CD Review: John Mayer- Paradise Valley
HUMOURLESS in the flesh John Mayer saves all the spark for his music.
It’s a questionable tactic but works darn well all over this album, a smart collection of witty and catchy-as-they-come ditties that carry John’s voice a treat.
He is a songwriter of considerable skill and can do no wrong, certainly in the States where he’s treated with unmitigated reverence.
We need a bit more oomph over here and his songs are sometimes too formulaic (by which we mean dull) for unreserved praise but Paradise Valley is certainly John Mayer on a good day.
Verdict: 4/5
