CD Review - Neil Young With Crazy Horse, Americana
DISMISSIVE of digital recording and over-technical musicianship, Young assembled his “just good enough” band of cohorts, Crazy Horse, decades ago to deliver a ramshackle riposte to such slickness.
Americana is that experiment brought to glorious fruition: a madcap romp through traditional American folk-song (Clementine, This Land Is Your Land etc), chock-full of feedback-laced guitar and football-terrace choruses.
It finishes, gloriously, and with a sense of timing never associated with Crazy Horse, in a rendition of God Save The Queen: once the National Anthem of the US.
