The superhero showdown notoriously received terrible reviews with just 27% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice suffered commercially too, failing to break $1 billion worldwide despite having two world renowned superheroes in the leads.
Having held his thoughts, with claims made he was humiliated, he’s now spoken openly about the backlash.
Affleck said the fans gave positive responses
During an interview to promote his latest film, The Accountant, Affleck revealed what he really thought to Fox 5 DC.
He said: “It’s interesting: It was a huge hit movie — more people went to see that than any movie I’ve made in my career.
“It was the biggest hit of my career and then it had so much editorial negativity.
“Fans went, and I got a lot of positive response. It was interesting, that movie, because it was judged not necessarily on execution so much as on its tone."
He added: “People seemed to want to have a lighter tone to the movie, and I thought that was interesting. Tone is not a qualitative thing. It’s subjective, right?
“Some tones resonate with me that might not with you.
“And the tone of the movie was really parallel to the Frank Miller book [The Dark Knight Returns], which I liked and thought was great.
“I’m glad that so many people went and so many people liked the movie.”
Affleck is currently working on his solo movie, The Batman
Affleck has just wrapped on Justice League, which he’s also an executive producer on.
He’ll now focus on his solo Batman movie, The Batman, which he’s writing and directing with DC president Geoff Johns.
Justice League is released in UK cinemas November 17, 2017.
