Today it is all about Steven Gerrard and the Merseyside Derby.

But there have been many football legends over the years

Take, for example, Scholes, Giggs, Neville, Neville, Butt and Beckham.

The Class Of ’92 transformed a football team, won trophies and international caps and ushered in a new era for football.

Now meet Hunter, Fallis, Keegan, Kurtz and Amoako.

They followed in their predecessors’ illustrious footsteps and were on the verge of matching their achievements in one record-breaking season.

And then it all fell apart.

New film United We Fall charts the rise – and fall – of this quintet in a hilarious new spoof soccer documentary which is out on on DVD next week.

To celebrate this footie fiasco we're taking a look at some of our favourite films about the Beautiful Game.

Pele, Sylvester Stallone and Pele in Escape to VictoryPH

Footballing great Pele stars alongside Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone in Escape To Victory

Escape To Victory (1981)

Bizarre late 1970s teaming of footballing superstars (Pele, Bobby Moore), Hollywood stars (Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone) and Ipswich Town players as a ragtag team of POWs taking on the Nazis in an exhibition match.

Stallone stars as the goalie.

When he asked if he could score the winning goal in the final match, someone had to explain that it wouldn’t really work that way in real life.

A Hollywood remake of the film is on the cards.

VICTORY (1981) Trailer

The Class Of 92 (2013)

Documentary about the handful of Manchester United players who rose through the ranks and ushered in the Premier League era and the Red Devils' dominance of English football.

The film was the brainchild of Gary Neville and surprisingly doesn’t feature Alex Ferguson.

When Paul Scholes realised it was going to be a film he said he didn’t particularly want to go to the premiere.

Football Factory (2004)

Hooligan epic that popularised both Danny Dyer and the phrase "jog on".

The Brit flick took a look at the darker side of football through the eyes of four different generations.

Danny Dyer almost didn’t make the cast until Nick Love took over as director.

As a Millwall supporter hsi co-star Tamer Hassan didn’t need to dig too deep for his role:

"I used to go to football with the main boys from Millwall," he said.

"For me research wasn't an issue."

Goal (2005)

Closely followed by the imaginatively titled Goal II Living The Dream (2007) and Goal III: Taking on The World (2009).

A trilogy of films in which a Mexican footballer heads first to Newcastle, then Real Madrid and in a crowning achievement, the World Cup Finals.

Plenty of real-life stars appear as themselves in this fictional tale.

The film was made with full co-operation from FIFA, which is one of the reasons actual teams and players are used.

David Beckham, Raul Gonzalez, Zinedine Zidane and Sven-Goran Eriksson all pop up along the way.

Sean Pertwee, Anna Friel and Ashley Walters all make an appearance.

Bend It Like Beckham (2002)

Woman footballers struggle against outdated attitudes and viewpoints, both in the footballing world and their own groups and communities.

The film put a young Keira Knightly (and her abs) on the map and was also a career breakthrough for Parminder Nagra who went onto star in E.R.

All Saints singer Shaznay Lewis also makes an appearance.

A stage musical of the film will open in London later this year.
