Alone Across The Pacific
JAPANESE director Kon Ichikawa died last year at the grand old age of 92.
His work is little known to modern audiences but this 1963 drama gives a flavour of his fascination with outsiders and stubborn loners.
A young man embarks on a reckless, clandestine solo sea voyage from Japan to San Francisco and the film captures all the physical and psychological pressures he endures along the way.
