Busy Alan spams it up
ALAN DALE went from the wobbly-walled world of Ramsay Street to US prime-time TV when he quit Melbourne for Hollywood but the former Neighbours actor says his new-found notoriety has its drawbacks.
The star – who recently cropped up in Ugly Betty, The OC and can currently be seen in Lost – is in the UK for a guest spot as King Arthur in the West End show Monty Python’s Spamalot but has found his famous face can cause problems using London’s buses and Underground.
“I like travelling on public transport,” he sighs, “but I’ve got two young children and it’s not fair on them to have people laughing and pointing at me so I go by black cab.”
Not content with conquering the small screen, the New Zealand-born 60-year-old will soon be in cinemas with a cameo in the new Indiana Jones film.
“I’ve worked with Harrison Ford before but I’ve never worked with Steven Spielberg so that was a dream come true,” he gushes.
“I play a general who is one of Indiana Jones’s friends but I can’t say more – I’ve signed a contract.”
