I would think that the vast majority of decent law abiding people would agree with Joe Arpaio's methods. So why don't politicians pay heed to it?

THE CURE FOR CRIME?

You would think the Arizona Sheriff's idea for punishment is a good deterrent for crime. Todays criminal has become so insensitive to what is happen to himself in prision most of them look at it as just the price they pay for their criminal activity.

Minimal creature comforts is a start. Prisioners don't deserve anything that resembles care and concern. My idea would be to set them out in the desert in the middle of 10, 000 acres and let them try to make their way out. If they make it out fine, if they don't fine also.

Most of these criminals will never add anything to life to make themselve worthy of even being alive!

You'll never follow the Sheriffs lead, you people are to soft and wimpy. Human rights my foot, you people are simple-minded when it comes to anything intelligent!

PRISONS

Here Here. This is what prison should be like in this country. This Sheriff is doing everyone a favour. In my book it doesn't matter whether they return to prison or not, prison should be harsh. The liberati brigade should put up or shut up. Prisoners have every consideration and the victims are given the sentence in real life. If you arn't going to bring back hanging make life behind bars unbearable.

We dont cure crime in this country, we apply a softly, softly, approach of help and rehabilitation.
The human rights act would prevent us from implementing "the cure for crime".
Abolish the Human rights act !

Some prisoners may benefit from rehabilitation but the hard core of criminals would certainly benefit from "The cure for crime ".

It's quite simple, make prison so unpleasant that no-one wants to re-offend. If they worked for their livings, doing community jobs in chain gangs, they'd soon learn that it isn't worth committing crime.

No, I'm not a die-hard reactionary, I just don't see why criminals should have a better life than OAPs. They get more spent on them, more ocmforts, no worries about bills to pay, so make their lives unpleasant.

If they don't reoffend, they can get jobs and support their families, thus cutting the benefits bill.

We all live better then.

As a case in point, I never go out after dark, because it's too dangerous, too many teenage gangs about, willing to mug people, vandalising property. That means that I'm essentially a prisoner in my own home for many hours during winter. Teach these young people to respect the law and other people by making sure that they know that if they are convicted of a crime, they'll have an unpleasant time of it in a Borstal or approved school.

They won't want a second helping of that, so why not do it? Make the whole country happy, cut youth crime, so they are less likely to offend as adults.

They are hardly poor little socially deprived youngsters, not when they can afford all the alcohol they swig. One group of morons set a local bus shelter on fire, using twelve packets of firelighters. Where did they get the money from for them?

And where are their mothers, grandmothrs, aunts, sisters going to shelter from the rain once the bus shelter is destroyed?

Short, sharp shocks might just help them to develop the capacity to think before they have a good time destroying public facilities.

Oh, and let's have an end to Police Services, make them Police Forces again..
