Stock up on candles
WE may soon look upon complaints about the cost of domestic energy with nostalgia.
Thanks to the last Labour government’s failure to build new power stations and the EU’s insistence that coal-fired ones must be closed it is likely that unavailability will soon top unaffordability as the biggest problem.
Anyone over 45 will have lived through an era of power cuts and keeping candles on standby once before. It beggars belief that in the second decade of the 21st century, Britain is set to return to such a parlous state.
