'Labour's repeated blockades against Rwanda Bill are betrayal of the British public’

The Rwanda bill represents an opportunity to regain control of our borders, ensure the safety and prosperity of the British people, and uphold our national sovereignty, writes James Daly.

The Conservative Party has consistently demonstrated a commitment to these principles, and it is clear that only a Conservative government led by Rishi Sunak can deliver the robust immigration system our country demands.

For too long, the Labour Party has obstructed the progress of essential legislation aimed at curbing illegal immigration.

Their repeated blockades against the Rwanda Bill are a betrayal of the British public’s demand for decisive action.

We have passed world-leading legislation to stop the boats, and while there’s more to do, we’ve made strong progress – deporting over 24,000 illegal migrants, processing over 120,000 asylum claims and importantly thanks to this action we have taken small boat arrivals down by over a third.

So, I want to ask a simple question of our Labour critics. What is your alternative?

If you feel so strongly about this, why have you voted against this policy over 134 times?

Why are you not working constructively with the government to stop people dying in the English Channel? We need a strong deterrent, but their approach is shortsighted and weak.

The vote today is about more than the passage of a bill; it is a declaration of our dedication to the future of the United Kingdom.

A vote against this bill is a vote against the clearly expressed will of the British people who are calling for controlled and sensible immigration policies.

As Members of Parliament, we have a duty to act in the best interests of our constituents and our country.

I urge my colleagues across the House to support the Rwanda Bill, not as a matter of party politics but as a necessity for our nation’s welfare and prosperity.
