Parenting blog: The year's most popular baby names
A look at this year’s top names for babies born in the UK shows that traditional monikers are still the most popular.
But the list, published by BabyCentre.co.uk, also reveals the changing face of Britain.
Oliver has replaced Jack as number one for boys while Isabelle is the most chosen for girls.
Other top names include Thomas, Joshua, Harry and William for boys and Emily, Sophie, Chloe and Olivia for girls.
While it may not surprise many to see Lily, after that cheeky pop star Miss Allen, as the number two girls’ name, many will be stunned to read the Mohammed was the 48th most popular name for British-born boys in the last 12 months.
Eastern European spellings of names, such a Sofia (13) for girls and Lukas (16) and Jakob (17) for boys, also make the top 50.
