The Hollywood actor’s scooter is thought to have collided with a vehicle on July 10.
George, 57, was taken to hospital following the crash, but his injuries were not thought to be serious.
According to the US publication People, the star’s wife, Amal, 40, rushed to his bedside as soon as she heard about the accident.
A source told the publication: “Amal wouldn’t leave his side.
“It was obvious that she was concerned.”
According to another insider, George and Amal’s families “were very worried and on the telephone reassuring one another, saying how lucky George was".
“He could have been killed,” the source insisted.
Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for George Clooney asking for an update.
Last week, George was pictured boarding a private jet with his spouse and one of their twin children.
In the captures, the American actor could be seen sitting on the rear of a golf buggy as he travelled towards the aircraft.
George grasped a railing on the vehicle, while the international law and human rights lawyer held one of their tots.
Another snap showed the star stepping towards the aeroplane, holding the golf buggy’s railing.
The star was said to have walked unaided, while Amal stood beside him.
The A-lister unveiled a graze on his left arm as he stepped onto the jet.
Last week, CCTV footage of the terrifying incident involving George emerged.
In the video, which was released and obtained by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, saw the star being flung into the air after the impact.
Witnesses at the scene joined the driver of the Mercedes car, which was involved in the ordeal, as they rushed to George’s aid.
George's representative confirmed to Express.co.uk on Tuesday he had been discharged from hospital and was recovering at home.
The spokesperson said: "George Clooney was treated and released from an Olbia hospital.
"He is recovering at his home and will be fine."
