The doctor, who welcomed her second child Theodore back in November, couldn't stop crying during his operation for tongue-tie, when the skin connecting the baby's tongue to their mouth is shorter than usual.
Speaking to OK! magazine, the 27-year-old said the situation was "really traumatic" before discussing her and singer Peter's 17-year age gap.
"I didn’t pick up on it and I’m a doctor," Emily said of Theo's diagnosis. "I felt guilty, I should have looked in his mouth and thought about tongue-tie.
"When they’re yours you don’t look at them as a patient. Pete and I were both crying when Theo had his operation. It was really traumatic."

Emily said she also turned to the Gina Ford contented baby method following his birth, less than three years after the couple welcomed daughter Amelia, three.
"I never thought I’d be buying a parenting self-help book with my second child, but he used to scream all day and all night and I’m not too proud to admit I needed help," she continued.
Emily, who wed Peter, 44, in 2015, refused to rule out the possibility of more children but said they needed "a bit of a break".

Emily MacDonagh said she was upset about criticism of their age gap
She went on: "We need to give the kids that we’ve got our time. When Theo is older and more settled then maybe in a few years we’ll consider it, so never say never."
Finally, Emily also said she found comments about her being younger than Peter "very upsetting".
She added: "I find it hard when people say I’m too young to be with him – my skin is not thick enough.
"I don’t have social media because otherwise you’re opening yourself up to that criticism."
