Now specialist builders have moved into the sprawling Beverly Hills home to build a bullet-proof and blast-proof panic room, with a direct phone line to the local police department.

A source said: “Simon was rattled by the London break-in and realised had it happened in America, the intruders would almost certainly have been armed and could have kidnapped any one of them.”
