One Direction to face off with 5 Seconds of Summer for Best Global Act at MTV awards
Boy bands ONE DIRECTION and 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER are set to go head-to-head for the Best Global Act honour at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The Best Song Ever hitmakers will fly the flag for Europe North, while 5 Seconds of Summer will represent Australia and New Zealand in the contest.
They will face competition from eight other acts, including girl group Fifth Harmony (North America) and German rockers Revolverheld, who will lead the charge for Europe Central.
Italian soul star Alessandra Amoroso will compete for Europe South, Polish teen Dawid Kwiatkowski will battle it out for Europe East and Palestinian singer Mohammed Assaf, who won 2013's Arab Idol reality TV show, is nominated on behalf of Africa, India and the Middle East.
MTV bosses announced the shortlist for the Best Global Act award on Thursday (30Oct14).
The winner will be announced during the MTV EMAs ceremony in Glasgow, Scotland on 9 November (14).
Katy Perry leads the list of nominations with seven.
