VIDEO: Former Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan stars in American sitcom Selfie
SHE'S known for being the red-haired beauty from Doctor Who, but it seems Karen Gillan is about to make a name for herself in a new American sitcom.
The Scottish actress has been cast as the lead in a new comedy titled Selfie.
ABC's Selfie is a show about a self-obsessed mid-20s girl, Eliza, who hires a marketing expert to help her with a personal problem.
The show is a modern take on My Fair Lady and Eliza's inadvertently become a social networking celebrity after an embarrassing video goes viral; she hires a marketing expert to repair her ruined image.
Karen stars alongside John Cho in the new comedy, which was thought-up by Suburgatory brainchild Emily Kapnek.
A premiere clip has been released of the new show, with Karen's character Eliza being given a ticking off by her boss, played by Cho.
Eliza responds to the dressing down saying, "totes, coolio, done-zo".
Speaking about her new role, Karen told Nerdist: "Yeah, I’m really excited."
She added: "I play a girl called Eliza, who’s really obsessed with social media. She’s really narcissistic, doesn’t have any real friends. Then she embarks on a mission to rebrand herself as a more likable person in real life.
"She’s great. She’s really American. It’s a modern retelling of Pygmalion."
Although there's no official release date for the show, the clip would suggest it's released in America this autumn.
It's been a busy time for Karen who's also been filming Guardians of the Galaxy, alongside Hollywood hunks Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, and The List alongside Jennifer Morrison.
