David Bowie tipped for Brits success ahead of coveted music awards tomorrow night
GLOBAL superstar David Bowie is being tipped to win big at tomorrow night's Brit Awards - his first prize for almost two decades.
The 67-year-old, who shot to fame in the seventies, is currently leading the field tot ale home the coveted best British male trophy following the success of his comeback album The Next Day.
The star had been absent in the music industry for ten years before returning last year, and if things go his way will be the oldest ever recipient of a Brit Award.
The current record holder is Sir Tom Jones, who was given an honorary prize for his outstanding contribution to music in 2003, when he was 62.
Bowie faces tough competition from the likes of Jake Bugg, John Newman, Tom Odell and James Blake, however the star has been ranked way out in front by Bookmaker William Hill at 3/1 in his favour.
The bookie also put Ellie Goulding in front to take the best British female prize, while Arctic Monkeys are the hot favourites for the best group prize.
If Bowie - who is also running for best British album - wins the prize, it will mark his third Brit Award. He won best male in 1984 and took home the honorary prize for outstanding contribution in 1996.
Meanwhile, former X Factor band One Direction have taken the lead spot in the Brit's first ever award to be decided using social media.
Music fans will be able to vote on Twitter tomorrow with the winner declared at the end of the ceremony.
Brits bosses have even opened up the voting to fans around the world, not just those in the UK, with the event being screened globally on YouTube in an effort to raise its international profile.
The event will feature a number of star performers including Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams and the Arctics who will take the stage at the O2 Arena in London.
