From the Albert Hall to sports hall for singer Charlotte Church
SHE has sung for the Pope, the Queen and Nelson Mandela.
But Charlotte Church has been keeping it a bit more low-key of late, playing a free gig to a handful of students in a university sports hall.
The former classical music star, who sang at the Royal Albert Hall when she was 14, was due to perform at a 550-capacity venue in Wolverhampton but is said to have sold only half the tickets.
So as a warm-up gig she appeared at Wolverhampton University’s freshers’ fair with a casual new look and ginger hair.
Charlotte, who became an international star at 13 with her album Voice Of An Angel, is also trying out a new sound.
Speaking after the gig on Thursday night, she said she was prepared for a “difficult road” to convert fans.
Charlotte, 27, explained: “When you are singing classical you are singing something that has been sung by thousands of people before you. There is only so much you can reinterpret.
“The way I am doing things now I get to write and create and do something new.”
