David Bowie depicted as Christ in shocking video for 'The Next Day'
DAVID Bowie has treated fans to yet another quirky music video, and this time he's bagged Hollywood stars Gary Oldman and Marion Cotillard to star in it.
The three-minute clip accompanies Bowie's third single 'The Next Day' which is taken from his new album of the same name.
Featuring several religious connotations, the footage portrays the 66-year-old singer as a Christ-like figure while Oldman takes on the role of a priest.
The video begins with Oldman punching a teenage boy who is begging for money, and then leading a nun into a pub.
Bowie and his band are seen performing the new song on stage, while Cotillard sits at the bar drinking a cocktail.
After being approached by Oldman's character, the French actress takes to the dancefloor with him - but things soon take a turn for the worse.
While dancing, Cotillard starts spurting blood for the palms of her hands - in what is a clear reference to Jesus Christ being nailed to the cross.
"Do you see this? This is your doing!" Olman shouts at Bowie - who is oblivious to his anger.
The unusual video ends with Bowie saying: "Thank you Gary, thank you Marion. Thank you everyone," as they gather around him, and then he disappears.
The odd film will come as no surprise to Bowie's fans. It sees the British singer collaborate with director Floria Sigismondi, who also directed the videos for 'Little Wonder,' 'Strangers When We Meet' and Bowie's most recent one 'The Stars (Are Out Tonight.)'
