Lesh celebrates 71st birthday with late night party
Ageing GRATEFUL DEAD musician PHIL LESH is still living the rock star lifestyle - he celebrated his 71st birthday on Tuesday night (15Mar11) by partying into the early hours of Wednesday morning (16Mar11).
The bassist held a bash at 230 Fifth in New York City after performing a gig with his latest project Further, which also includes the only other living Grateful Dead member, Bob Weir.
The group performed a medley of Beatles songs for their finale in front of other guests including musicians Robert Randolph, Steve Molitz and Warren Haynes.
Lesh's bandmates then surprised the star by bringing out a birthday cake at 3am, while onlookers cheered as he blew the flames out, reports New York Post gossip column Page Six.
