George Gilbey was reportedly saving to be closer to his daughter before his tragic death. The former Gogglebox star died, aged 40, after suffering "traumatic injuries" when falling 80ft on March 27.

Essex Coroner's Court was told that George fell through a plastic skylight onto the ground below which caused head and torso injuries. A post mortem found that the injuries sustained were "consistent with a fall from height".

His heartbroken mum, Linda McGarry, 74, has told of some of his final moments before the sudden but tragic accident. She said that her son, who she appeared on the hit Channel 4 show with, had been desperately working so he could spend more time with only child Amelie, aged seven.

The dad-of-one worked hard to co-parent Amelie, with his ex Gemma Conway, and be closer to them in south west London.

Linda said: "George was trying to get money together to get a room. He was going to rent from his friend, Skippy, near to Amelie in Twickenham.

"George was on great terms with Gemma and wanted to do things like pick Amelie up from school.

"He wanted to be with Amelie, who he adored. They were on the third day of a job that was going to last a month, and he was going to get money together from that.

"When they were together, George and Amelie were always laughing. She is going to miss him terribly, like we all will."

George, from Clacton-On-Sea in Essex, rose to fame on the Channel 4 reality show with his mother Linda and stepfather Pete. The trio joined the show in its second series back in 2013 before he left to explore other opportunities.

Just months after leaving, he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and finished in fourth place. In a statement about his death, Channel 4 said: “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”
