Parents at centre of Huw Edwards scandal break silence as he resigns from BBC

Huw Edwards resigned from the BBC on Monday on medical advice following last year's allegations that he paid a young person for explicit pictures.

Huw Edwards resigns from BBC

The parents at the centre of the Huw Edwards scandal said that they are "still suffering" and "still seeking answers" before he quit the BBC. The news anchor left his role on Monday on medical grounds after 40 years.

Huw, 62, was suspended from the BBC last July after allegations were made that he sent a young individual thousands of pounds and received explicit images. He has since not appeared on screen since the claims.

Speaking exclusively to the publication, the young person's parents voiced their concern that they "won't get answers" now that Huw has departed the BBC.

The mother told The Sun: "In resigning we are worried we won’t get the answers we so desperately need. If Huw has been found to have done something wrong no action can be taken against him. My heart is broken.

"This has been a traumatic time that we feel hasn’t been resolved. We just want closure and this doesn’t take us any closer to it. We still have so many questions and we need the BBC to answer them. This is not the end for us."

Express.co.uk have contacted a representative of Huw Edwards for comment. A spokesperson from the BBC said: "We don’t believe it appropriate to comment further."

On Monday, the broadcaster announced that Edwards had left with immediate effect on medical grounds. They said in a statement: "After 40 years of service, Huw has explained that his decision was made on the basis of medical advice from his doctors.

"The BBC has accepted his resignation, which it believes will allow all parties to move forward."

Edwards was admitted to hospital after the allegations were made against him in July. He has previously admitted to struggling with his mental health in the past.

Huw was named by his wife Vicky Flind in a 200-word statement last year after several days of speculation following claims made to The Sun about the news anchor's conduct.

She said at the time: "In light of the recent reporting regarding the BBC presenter I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what has been five extremely difficult days for our family.

"I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children. Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years."

The Metropolitan Police has previously said that it has found no evidence of any criminal offences.
