Peter Andre, 48, gained huge popularity as a pop singer with his singles Mysterious Girl and Flava, however life was not always smooth sailing for the star. Peter revealed in a new interview that he was never accepted when he was younger and was the target for many bullies, leading him once to get knifed.

Peter was born in London but moved to Sydney, Australia when he was nine.

He was of Cypriot descent, which he said left him to get bullied a lot while he was at school.

Recalling the experience, he said to The Guardian: "Throughout my life I’ve been accepted and rejected for my appearance.

"As a kid, I felt isolated because I was Greek and a 'greasy w*g', as the kids and teachers used to call me."

He took beatings sometimes with sticks and stones but on one occasion he had a knife pulled on him.

Peter continued: "I took a lot of beatings for looking different; some were with fists and some were with stones.

"The knife that was pulled on me never went all the way in, but it certainly scared me enough to know that things could be over very quickly."

When The Mysterious Girl hitmaker moved to Australia he said he was part of the only "ethnic" family in the area.

When he launched an anti-bullying campaign on Lorraine two years ago, Peter said: "We were picked on a lot, initially it was racism - which is a form of bullying - and it wasn't just calling names, we got beaten pretty badly.

"Years later, a lot of those people have apologised and they're not like that now at all.

"But when you are bullied, even if you get through it like I did, certain things scar you for life.

He continued: "Bullying is a horrible thing and so many kids are going through it.

"It's scared me to the point that even now at 47, my hair is naturally curly but I won't have it curly, I always straighten it.

"The reason I do that is every time I look in the mirror and my hair's curly… I see what those kids used to call me, so that's the long-term effect of bullying and it's really tough."

Peter is married to Emily MacDonagh, with the pair sharing two children together.

He also shares two children with his ex Katie Price, Princess, 14, and Junior, 16.

Peter met Katie while they both took part in I'm a Celebrity... Get me Out of Here in 2004.

They married two years after the show finale before divorcing in 2009.

While married Peter took on the role as stepfather for Katie's son Harvey, from her earlier relationship with football player Dwight Yorke.

Peter began his relationship with Emily in 2012, with their first child being born two years later.
