Peace lily: Best room temperature to make the houseplant bloom beautiful flowers
Plant expert Mary Ellen revealed the best conditions to help your peace lily houseplant thrive for years.
Native to tropical climates, a peace lily plant "hates the cold", Mary Ellen of Moody Blooms shared.
Anything under four degrees Celsius is likely to cause curled and yellowed leaves.
This is why a peace lily should be kept away from uninsulated windows during the colder weather which, in the UK, could even mean during spring.
The "best temperature" for a peace lily to thrive is between 18 to 27C, so if you are struggling to grow a happy peace lily, it could be because your home is too cold.
These beautiful plants are not only decorative in the home when looked after properly, they also acts as powerful filters to remove toxins in the air.
Any cold draft is likely to upset the peace lily plant, as they are very much "like humans" in that they love the room temperature to be around 23C.
"Never place it in front of air conditioning vents or heaters," cautioned Mary. "Be sure not to place it in an area that is too hot or too cold," added Mary, who shared her expertise on common peace lily problems.
One such problem is the lack of flowering, which Mary attributed to ineffective lighting.

"They rarely bloom in low light conditions, even though they're very tolerant of low light conditions," affirmed Mary.
"Blooms will become more and more sparse in low light and then, eventually, they'll just stop blooming."
Why a peace lily flower would turn green
This tends to be "part of the normal peace lily flower life cycle" or can be a sign of over-fertilising, which can lead to brown tips on the leaves.
If this is the case for your peace lily plant, Mary recommended washing the soil with distilled water to remove excess nutrients.
Brown tips on a peace lily houseplant is an "indication that something is bothering" the plant.
Causes could be:
- Tap water
- Fertiliser burn
- Overwatering
- Underwatering
"Rain water is magic for plants," said Mary, who encouraged plant lovers to use rain water instead of tap water.
